The U.S. military on Friday carried out airstrikes on over 85 locations in Iraq and Syria. The U.S. airstrikes were in response to the recent attack on their military in Jordan, where three U.S. troops lost their lives.
The targeted operations were aimed at groups associated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) and the militias it supports. These airstrikes aimed to address the situation and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
U.S. Lieutenant General Douglas Sims, the director of the Joint Staff, disclosed the information indicating the apparent success of the attacks. The bombs striking the weaponry of the militants resulted in substantial secondary explosions. Nevertheless, it remains uncertain whether any militants were killed as a result of these explosions.
Sims further elaborated that the strikes were executed with the understanding that there would inevitably be casualties among the individuals present within the targeted facilities.
Moreover, he emphasized that the timing of the operation was intricately influenced by the prevailing weather conditions, which played a pivotal role in its planning and execution.
The military operation specifically focused on neutralizing the Quds Force, which operates as the overseas intelligence and paramilitary division of the IRGC.
The U.S. military confirmed that the strikes effectively targeted a range of facilities. These included command and control centres, storage facilities for rockets, missiles, and drones, as well as logistics and munition supply chain facilities.
