Volkswagen Says It May Soon Be Overtaking Tesla

Volkswagen AG is in a position to overtake Tesla Inc. in an interview, works council chairman Bernd Osterloh told Welt am Sonntag, both in terms of e-car production numbers and software growth.

“If Tesla develops three factories where it is possible to manufacture 300,000 to 500,000 vehicles, then we are talking about a number of units between 900,000 and 1,5 million. We want to accomplish the same, perhaps even sooner, in 2023, “Osterloh told the paper. VW’s modular electric-drive matrix architecture gives a “massive” advantage to the carmaker, as it can build on it any vehicle of any brand, Osterloh said.
