The George Uboh Whistleblowers Network stormed the National Assembly on Tuesday to demand accountability from the House of Representatives commission established to investigate the 48 million barrels of oil that were unjustly sold to China.
The group, led by a man named Peter Umoh, identified itself as a civil society organization with the mission of combating corruption. They carried banners and placards with slogans criticizing the lower chamber for creating the ad hoc committee when the crime, in their opinion, is already being pursued in a court of law.
In December 2022, the House of Representatives decided to create an ad hoc committee to look into charges made by a whistleblower that 48 million barrels of Bonny Light crude were sold illegally in China in 2015. The committee would also look into the cargo’s insurance status.
The resolution was adopted when a member of the house named Ibrahim Isiaka made a motion.
