According to his attorney, former US president Donald Trump has been asked to testify before a grand jury in connection with the Stormy Daniels case by New York prosecutors.
Five years have passed since the Manhattan district attorney began looking into Mr. Trump over alleged hush money payments made on his behalf to the former pornstar.
He may be charged if a grand jury invites him, according to analysts.
Ms. Daniels claims she received $130,000 prior to the 2016 election in exchange for her silence on an alleged affair, but Mr. Trump disputes this.
A prosecutor convenes a grand jury to decide if there is sufficient evidence to press charges in a case. It is held in private, and numerous of Mr. Trump’s former advisers are said to have testified in this case.
If prosecutors move forward, it may be the first time a former US president has ever been charged with a crime.
