In six states across the nation, a non-governmental organization operating under the aegis of Mission to Rescue the Helpless reported performing more than 1,400 mass hydrocelectomy procedures for hydrocele cases brought on by lymphatic filariasis, often known as elephantiasis.
This was announced by the organization’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Francisca Olamiji, at the start of the second phase of hydrocelectomy and lymphoedema therapy at the Specialist Hospital, Okitipupa, the administrative center for the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
She claimed that although 50 people were initially anticipated to profit from the gesture, the Organization was able to accommodate 100 patients, and that no less than 100 people had benefited from the free surgery and management of the sickness in the Ondo Central Senatorial District.
Olamiju also made the point that lymphatic filariasis and elephantiasis were endemic to the state, calling attention to the necessity for the intervention to ensure that people may live healthy lives.
