The kidnappers who took 85 people hostage in the Zamfara State town of Wanzamai in the Tsafe Local Government Area have finally agreed to demand N20,000 for each victim.
As one of the requirements for the release of the kidnapped, they also requested that the authorities remove soldiers from the village.
They threatened to kill any victim who did not pay the money by Sunday at midnight if they did not do it on time.
They threatened to continue kidnapping the people if the military forces stationed in Wanzamai village were not removed.
Abubakar Na’Allah, a local, told The PUNCH over the phone that the robbers had informed them that they would only demand N20,000 from each of the 85 victims as ransom because to their precarious financial situation.
“The bandits earlier demanded the price of N50m to release the 85 individuals they had abducted, most of them were women and children who went to the forest to get firewood last Friday,” Na, Allah added.
But after several discussions, they decided to charge N20,000 to each victim because they realized that they all came from low-income households.
