Anthony Joshua Knocks Out Kubrat Pulev to Retain Heavyweight Titles

Anthony Joshua knocks out Kubrat Pulev in a chaotic flurry in round nine.

The Nigeria-born British heavyweight champion drilled his challenger to the canvas that saw Pulev under attack and turning his back while under the blast, only to reach the bell somehow.

After knocking out Kubrat Pulev in the ninth round, Anthony Joshua retained their heavyweight belts.

He has now set the tone for a Tyson Fury showdown – which is sure to be the best fight in the history of British boxing.

World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua combined strength and patience to reinforce expectations that a historic fight against Tyson Fury would soon be a reality.

Before landing a big right hand to KO his opponent, the British fighter went nine rounds with the rugged Bulgarian.

Joshua, perhaps tired of the confusion, stepped off the gas and allowed Pulev to give at least a slight attack, but Pulev was dropped by a barrage of uppercuts in the ninth and wiped out seconds later by a straight right hand.

Joshua said: “I started this game in 2013, gathered the belts.

“Whoever has the belts I want to compete with. If that is Tyson Fury, let it be Tyson Fury.” the Nigerian-born British heavyweight champion added.

Joshua immediately quit the ring at ringside to greet boxing hero Floyd Mayweather.

Ahead of the bout, Mayweather had called Joshua a “hell of a fighter and a gentleman”.

The Watford-born champion, 31, walked out to the Seven Nation Army of The White Stripes as his name was belted out by the 1,000 fans permitted into the stadium.
