Xiaomi, a Chinese technology company accused of stealing Apple designs, unveiled a new humanoid robot that resembles Tesla’s Optimus.
During a live event in Beijing, the Chinese tech company unveiled the first look at CyberOne.
The humanoid bot appeared to communicate with Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun as it walked across the stage.
While Elon Musk had planned to launch the Tesla humanoid robot in September, Xiaomi beat Tesla to the punch by building a functional humanoid robot, albeit a copycat, as the Xiaomi CyberOne resembles the electric-car maker’s Optimus.
However, until Tesla’s Second AI Day, Xiaomi’s CyberOne bot may provide some insight into what a Tesla Optimus bot might look like.
Despite the fact that the Optimus reveal featured a man in a spandex suit, you can agree that it was modelled after Optimus, Musk shared several images of the Tesla bot concept design at the AI event.
For example, CyberOne is five feet eight inches tall, similar to Tesla’s Optimus. The bot features the same white and black minimalist design, as well as an LED screen in place of a face.
However, CyberOne appears to be slightly larger.
Xiaomi also stated in its press release that the bot can detect human emotion, which is a feature that Musk has discussed, claiming that the Tesla bot could eventually develop a distinct personality and even become a human companion.
CyberOne has a top speed of about 2.2 miles per hour, which falls just short of Tesla’s planned top speed of 5 miles per hour. CyberOne, unlike the Optimus designs, has mitten-like hands that open and close but don’t appear to do much else.
The Chinese tech company has been known to copy other tech companies’ designs. Over the last decade, the company has released smartphones and internal updates that are nearly identical to Apple’s iPhone and iOS software.
Former Apple Chief Design Officer Johnny Ive accused Xiaomi of “theft” in 2014. A charge that Xiaomi co-founder Lin Bin denied at the time.
And in 2021, Xiaomi surpassed Apple to become the world’s second-largest smartphone seller.
Take a look at the Xiaomi CyberOne bot for yourself.
And compare it with the Tesla Optimus bot.
