On Tuesday, the founder and three members of an African-American nationalist group were indicted by the US Department of Justice. They stand accused of colluding with Russian intelligence services in an effort to sway the outcome of elections in the United States.
The individuals in question are Omali Yeshitela, who founded both the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP) and the Uhuru Movement, as well as Penny Joanne Hess, Jesse Nevel, and Augustus Romain, all of whom are members of the APSP. Prosecutors allege that these individuals acted as agents in service of the Russian government.
As per the prosecution’s claims, the four accused received financial backing and assistance from Alexander Ionov, a Russian citizen who operated covertly under the guise of an anti-globalization movement leader. They also allegedly received aid from spies within the FSB, the Russian secret services.
According to American justice, the defendants all knew that Mr. Ionov, who is suspected of having now fled to Russia, was working for Moscow.
