On Wednesday, in Jalingo, Commissioner of Police Mr Joseph Eribo announced the apprehension of a suspected kidnapper, Aliyu Muhammed, in possession of N8.55 million and seven mobile phones. Mobile policemen stopped Muhammed at a checkpoint on the Jalingo-Yola bypass at Yaggai.
The 35-year-old suspect, originally from Mubi, was driving a Toyota car with registration number YLA 321 ZY when he was arrested on Tuesday. Despite interrogation, Muhammad failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for his activities. Subsequent inspection of his vehicle revealed N8,555,000 in cash, seven mobile phones, an MTN recharge card worth N3,000, and seven amulets.
Additionally, the Commissioner of Police reported the arrest of five other suspected kidnappers by the command’s anti-kidnapping unit and local vigilante members.
The suspects, identified as Habibu Ibrahim (alias Rilwanu), Abba Mohammed (aka Gandari), Aliyassa’u Umar, Abdulaziz Adamu (aka Dan-Mallam), and Danlami Ibrahim (alias Teacher), are residents of the Jauro Ganah New CBN area of Jalingo.
Three AK47 rifles, each loaded with five rounds of live ammunition, were recovered from these individuals. These arrests highlight the ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping activities within the state, showcasing the commitment of law enforcement agencies and local communities to ensure public safety and security.
