In the ongoing inquiry into the suspected unlawful sale of 48 million barrels of crude oil valued at $2.4 billion, senior officials of the Nigeria Federal Government failed to appear before the House of Representatives.
Tuesday marked the start of a three-day investigation by the House’s Ad Hoc Committee to Examine Alleged Loss of Nearly $2.4 Billion in Revenue from Alleged Illegal Sale of 48 Million Barrels of Crude Oil Export in 2015, Including All Crude Oil Exports and Sales by Nigeria from 2014 to Date.
The committee was to question ministers, other federal government ministries, department, and agency leaders, as well as representatives from banks and oil firms.
As a result, the committee called for a meeting with Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning; Abubakar Malami (SAN), Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation; and Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
In his decision at the conclusion of the day’s proceedings, the committee’s chairman, Mark Gbillah, noted that the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation had accused numerous individuals and organizations in their memos to the panel.
