Russia and Belarus on Monday engaged today in joint air force drills amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Since the inception of the war in Ukraine, Belarus remains one of the countries that has failed to condemn Russia’s aggressive invasion of Kyiv, rather they further strengthen their ties.
In information released by the Belarusian Defence Ministry, it said the Russians have deployed warplanes to Belarus for the joint drilling which is aimed to last until the first week of February.
The exercise among other things will feature joint air patrols, action to support ground forces, airborne operations, air reconnaissance, and transport flights.
The new air force drills are aimed at consolidating the relationship between Russia and Belarus, as the former had promised in helping their neighbor to modernize their aircraft which will make them nuclear-capable.
Through rigorous diplomatic relations, the Russians used the Belarus territory to invade Ukraine from the north on February 24.
The Defence Ministry said that all the country’s air bases and firing ranges will be involved in the drills, but the number of aircraft to participate in the drills remain undisclosed.
