Authorities have announced the apprehension of five individuals believed to be associated with the Yoruba nation movement, who allegedly caused a disturbance at Amuludun FM during the early hours of Sunday.
According to eyewitness accounts, the group reportedly stormed the radio station in protest of the station’s perceived bias against airing their campaigns.
The station’s General Manager, Mr. Stephen Agbaje, acknowledged the incident but assured the public that the situation was swiftly contained.
In response to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Wale Osifeso, stated that a faction of a separatist organization had “violently commandeered” the Amuludun 99.1 FM radio station in the Moniya area of Ibadan, to proclaim independence from the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Assuring the public that no individuals were injured during the operation to regain control of the station, Osifeso confirmed that an investigation into the matter was currently underway.
