Putin Congratulates Joe Biden on U.S. Election Victory After Electoral College Confirmation

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Joe Biden on his win in the U.S. presidential election, the Kremlin said, after Biden secured the state-by-state Electoral College vote that formally decides the U.S. presidency.

Before speaking on the outcome, the Kremlin had said it would wait for the final results of the election, even though other nations congratulated Biden on winning in the days following the Nov. 3 vote.

“For my part, I am ready for interaction and contact with you,” the Kremlin quoted Putin as saying in a statement.

“Putin wished the president-elect every success and expressed confidence that Russia and the United States, which have a special responsibility for global security and stability, could, despite their differences, really help to solve the many problems and challenges facing the world,” the Kremlin said.

Electoral college confirms Joe Biden as the U.S. President after crossing the 270 marks needed to be the US president.

On Jan. 20, Biden and Harris will be sworn in as the first woman, the first Black male, and the first Asian American to become vice-president-elect.
