The Russian military achievement in Ukraine following their recent victory in the city of Lysychansk in the Luhansk region, Ukraine, has shown to some extent how Russia has carried out substantial reforms to its military forces, increasing their capabilities in several key areas.
While many have attached failure to the Russian aggression on Ukraine in comparison to their military prowess and might. Russia’s military has a greater advantage in terms of strength, artillery, ammunition, fighter jets, and other sophisticated weapons and nuclear over their Ukrainian counterpart, but the velocity at which their military operation was going did not depict the actual reality of the Russians as the second strongest military trailing only behind the United States.
Reports from the Kremlin in their local news cited that, so far, the Russian forces have recorded continuous victories with President Putin giving the military commendable acknowledgment and implying them to keep the mightiness of the Russian military going. With the recent victory in the Luhansk region, the Russians are moving towards the Donbas region, a success which had made many delve into the military strategy employed by the Russian forces.
ATTRITION WARFARE
Attrition warfare is a military strategy consisting of belligerent attempts to win a war by wearing down the enemy to the point of destruction through continuous losses in personnel and material. The Russians have been fans of such military strategy which they first employed during their battle with Napoleon.
The military strategy is used to wear out the military resources of the fighting enemy to demoralize them, and also to suffer fewer casualties from the offensive side. The use of the strategy by the Russians was mainly for strategic reasons, and their unwillingness to concentrate their major forces in Ukraine made them resort to military tactics for a lesser casualty.
Through the implementation of the strategy, the Ukrainian military has been forced to leave their door open due to consecutive shellings of their military facilities by the Russians. With dash hope for a quick victory due to hard resistance from the Ukrainian side, Russia has increasingly focused on grinding down Ukraine’s military facilities in the east with the hope of forcing Kyiv into surrendering part of the country’s territory to halt the war.
Step by Step Easy-Hard Offensive.
Another tactic seen to have been employed by the Russian military was a step-by-step easy hard attack, the Russians forces having dropped the idea of a full and direct offensive in Ukraine, had calmed his nerve militarily, giving the Ukrainians an overwhelming advantage in defensive strategy, the Moscow forces leverage on the calmed advantage from Ukraine’s forces to hit them on a hard time consecutively.
The Russians have been decisive in their strategy, waiting patiently for their opponent to have military access from contributing countries before dealing a huge blow by just receiving military equipment.
Using easy-hard attacks by the Russian forces, gave them a huge relative advantage to the detriment of their opponent who have been on the defensive style much of the time.
Should Russia continue with the already applied military strategy which gave them some military advantage in eastern Ukraine, taking the whole of the capital won’t be a hard nut to crack for the Russians except for a direct response from the Ukrainians.
