Five people were murdered in an automobile accident on the Tombia-Amassoma route in the state’s Yenagoa Local Government Area, according to information released on Saturday by the Bayelsa State Police Command.
A Sport Utility Vehicle coming from Yenagoa collided head-on with a passenger car that was traveling from the university town of Amassoma to the state capital on Friday afternoon along the LNG axis of the typically congested road.
Asinim Butswat, a spokesman for the command, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the car accident claimed the lives of five people.
He said: “On 28 April, 2023 at about 1500 hours a black Toyota SUV with Reg number RGM-38-HM had a head-on collision with a Mazda 323F car with Reg No.NEM-456-PG, along the Amassoma Road, Yenagoa Local Government Area.
“Four passengers and the driver of the Mazda car died on the spot.
“A female passenger was rescued and hospitalized at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri.
“Corpses of the victims were deposited at the same hospital for autopsy.
“Investigation is ongoing to arrest the driver of the SUV car and to ascertain the cause of the fatal car crash.”
