Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf apologized to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, following accusations of interference in the Kano emirship crisis.
The apology occurred during a closed-door meeting between the governor and Ribadu at the governor’s office in Abuja on Thursday.
After the enactment of the Kano State Emirates Council Law 2024, Governor Yusuf deposed Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as Emir of Kano and reinstated Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.
However, upon Bayero’s return to Kano and occupation of the Nassarawa palace, the governor ordered his arrest due to concerns about escalating tension in the state.
The Kano state deputy governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, accused Ribadu of supporting Ado Bayero’s return to Kano after his dethronement.
Ribadu, denied the allegation and issued a warning to Gwarzo, demanding an apology within a specified timeframe under threat of legal action.
The deputy governor has since apologized to Ribadu, attributing the allegation to flawed intelligence.
Governor Yusuf, while describing his meeting with Ribadu yesterday as “fruitful engagement,” reportedly verbally apologized to Ribadu over the events of last week, according to sources privy to the discussion.
