The UK has banned imports of Russian liquified natural gas (LNG) starting from January 1, 2023, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed on Sunday in a post made on the popular microblogging platform, Twitter.
On Saturday, the office said Britain was “supporting countries around the world to reduce their own dependency” on Russian fossil fuels.
The UK imported 3.12 billion cubic meters of Russian gas, which accounted for 4% of the nation’s total consumption in 2021.
Europe has been working hard to distance itself from Russian energy commodities ever since Russia invaded Ukraine.
But ditching Russian gas has proven to be more difficult than Europe expected.
