In an alternate version of English: The United States military has conducted airstrikes on two facilities located in eastern Syria that are known to be used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran-affiliated groups.
The purpose of these strikes is to respond to ongoing attacks against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria. This was announced by the Pentagon on Sunday.
Over the past few weeks, pro-Iranian militias have escalated their attacks on U.S. military bases in Syria and Iraq as a direct response to the Israeli military campaign in Gaza.
The entire region has been experiencing heightened tensions since October 7, when Hamas militants carried out deadly attacks in southern Israel.
In retaliation, Israel has launched an extensive air and ground offensive in Gaza.
To act as a deterrent, the United States has deployed additional weapons systems, warships, and air squadrons to the Eastern Mediterranean. Furthermore, they are sending several hundred troops to the Middle East to support their existing units in the region.
It is important to note that U.S. President Joe Biden specifically authorized these actions on Sunday to send a clear message that the United States will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin emphasized this point.
The United States is fully prepared to take any further necessary measures to ensure the protection of its people and its interests.
