President Moon Jae-in of South Korea on Monday presided over a meeting at the Blue House in Seoul, where he stressed the need for world peace by asserting that Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty must be respected amidst the growing tension in Eastern Europe.
“The sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine must be respected and a peaceful resolution through dialogues must be sought after. It’s never desirable for the situation in Ukraine to deteriorate into an armed conflict.
It’ll have a big impact politically and economically not only in Europe but also around the world,” said Moon, according to a statement released by the Presidential Blue House.
Moon urged the world to work together to resolve the Ukraine crisis quickly and peacefully, and he promised that South Korea will positively participate in these efforts.
He also called for the evacuation of Korean citizens in Ukraine and for “countermeasures” against the expected economic impact of the situation.
In a bid to avoid the uncertainty, evacuations of Korean citizens have been on the rise, and on Sunday, the South Korea Foreign Ministry has issued an emergency warning to the remaining citizens on the fast need to evacuate Ukraine quickly amidst the growing crisis at the Eastern border.
“The Korean Embassy has successfully relocated her staff to the Western border of Ukraine since Feb 16, and the ministry had continuously maintained close coordination among related agencies while monitoring the development in Ukraine and continues to maintain cooperation by sharing information with related countries,” Says BBC.
