Protesters took to the streets of port sudan on Wednesday (17 May 17). Several people gathered outside the hotel where Volker Perthes, the UN representative in the region, was staying, urging him to leave.
Since April 15th, deadly fighting has killed around 1,000 people between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary group rsf. Protesters blame the un envoy for the power struggle.
After the army chief and the paramilitary chief joined up to derail a democratic transition, some Sudanese groups condemned the un’s attempts to mediate between the military junta and civilian leaders.
The onset of a transition in sudan was halted due to the continuing conflict.
