As rescue operations continue in Papua New Guinea, no less than 2,000 were estimated to have been buried under the rubble following a devastating landslide that affected the Island on Friday.
The landslide affected 6 villages, destroying nearly 1,200 houses in Enga Province.
Rescue operations are currently ongoing on the Island coordinated by the UN agency, as victims are currently being moved to safer places.
As the rescue operation intensified, on Sunday, the UN agency said 3 bodies were retrieved from an area where about 50-60 homes were affected by the landslide.
Expectations of increase in several casualties are anticipated by the agency, as another 6 people including a child were rescued alive.
According to an Australian aid group, the landslide is anticipated to affect nearly 4,000 people on the Island as access to major roads has been affected badly.
International support is called for by the Papua New Guinea government, as they seek more aid and support in rescuing the victims and providing cater for survivors.
