The Nigeria international is set to miss out on the opening matches of the Afcon 2022 after he was tested positive for covid19 as confirmed from a source in Italy.
According to reports made by the club in Italy, the club said, “Napoli has announced that Victor Osimhen has tested positive for Covid-19 but is asymptomatic. Dr. Tartaro was due to perform a check-up on the player tomorrow.
“Consequently, the local authorities have ordered that Osimhen self-isolate and the check-up will be rescheduled after he has tested negative and his period of isolation ends.”
The Nigerian-born international striker was among the 28man squad of the Super Eagles who are set to battle for the most prestigious trophy in the continent.
The 23-year-old, who is in recovering process from an injury sustained in his cheekbone against the defending champion (Inter Milan) in late November, who’s still waiting to get back to full activity after an initial report suggested that, the prolific striker will be ruled out for three months.
With the latest update on being tested positive for covid19, the striker won’t be among the Super Eagle squad to travel to Cameroon for the Afcon pending another update about his progress.
