Between January and March 2023, no less than 1,230 people were killed, including 79 security forces and over 658 people were abducted around Nigeria.
This was revealed in a study published by a civil society group, global rights, titled: “1st quarter mass atrocities casualties tracking report” published by Saturday Vanguard in Abuja.
Banditry remained the leading cause of violent deaths in the united states, with 29.27 percent (360 deaths), while a growing threat is the rise of extra-judicial killings and herdsmen-related killings, which total about 10.08 percent and 13.65 percent, with at least 124 and 168 deaths respectively.
According to the survey, Boko-haram/iswap-related atrocities accounted for 22.11 percent (at least 272 deaths).
At least 7.72 percent of political deaths, or at least 95 deaths, were caused by the recent 2023 general elections.
