The Israeli Foreign Ministry has rejected a resolution passed by the UN Security Council that called for “extended humanitarian pauses and corridors” in Gaza.
The ministry stated that there is no need for extended humanitarian pauses as long as hostages are being held by Hamas. Israel’s envoy to the UN, Gilad Erdan, also criticized the resolution for not condemning Hamas over its attack against Israel on Oct. 7.
The resolution, which calls for the release of all hostages, particularly children, was supported by twelve countries but abstained from by the US, the UK, and Russia. Israel has been carrying out air and ground attacks on Gaza since the cross-border attack by Hamas, resulting in a significant number of casualties, including women, children, and medical personnel.
The government media office in Gaza reported a death toll of 11,500, with thousands of buildings damaged or destroyed. The Israeli death toll stands at around 1,200.
