Elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark has denounced Suleiman Abba’s recent nomination as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund. Abba was previously the Inspector General of Police.
The appointment was just made by President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).
‘President Buhari’s re-appointment of Suleiman Abba, a sacked Inspector-General of Police by former President Goodluck Jonathan for disloyalty: A compensation for betrayal,’ Clark claimed in a statement on Saturday. He argued that by making the appointment, the Commander-in-Chief had once again thrown the concept of federal character under the bus.
Citing pertinent clauses from the 1999 Constitution (as modified), the accusation was made that the President had failed to search outside of his geopolitical sphere for a candidate.
Clark claims that the previous Secretary of the Fund, Mr. Abdullahi Bala, is from the North-Western state of Sokoto, and that the prior Secretary who left his position to run for governor also hails from Sokoto State.
