Ghana’s president Nana Addo Dankawa Akufo Addo has applauded the team that spearheaded the launch of the country’s first satellite into space on Friday.
The west African giant country was joyous and jubilating upon the technological achievement and was appreciative to the efforts of all teams who are from a private university, the all nations university situated in its eastern region.
The satellite space was named, ghanasat-1, and it was launched into the space from the international space station, while the team back in Ghana watched from the university’s auditorium.
The Ghanaian president while he celebrated the feat, he sent an appreciative message to the team that spearheaded the technological feat.
In his Twitter account, the president said: “congratulation to the team from all nations uni,. Koforidua, for the successful launch of Ghana’s 1st satellite, GhanaSat-1”.
The new GhanSat space satellite has some unique specifications and the capacity to perform the following functions:
It has low and high resolution cameras on board and is expected to orbit 400km (248 miles) above the earth.
It will be used to monitor Ghana’s coastline for mapping purposes and to collect data in that subject.
The launch was made possible with Japanese collaboration. It was a 2-year project that cost $50,000 in collaboration with the Japanese aerospace exploration agency (JAXA)
It has a weight of 1kg and was one of five microsatellites launched
