At least eight people died who were suspected to be miners in Limpopo. The eight suspected miners were allegedly busy with illegal mining activities before being trapped.
Police reported that three people were Mozambicans, four were Zimbabweans, and one is South African.
The miners who were digging for chrome at Ga-maroga village died after they were trapped underground.
According to a police station report by Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, “The miners were allegedly busy with illegal mining activities when the water coming from heavy rains that fell in the area ushed the soil that blocked the only point they were using for entry and exit. They then apparently suffocated,”.
The eight deceased were living in the country illegally in terms of immigration law, the country will prepare immigration charges against the deceased and register a case of illegal mining against all of them.
