Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been convicted and found guilty of all 34 charges on his hush trial money.
The verdict announced by a New York Jury on Thursday affirmed that the former president was guilty of all charges, setting a precedent for Trump being the first ex-president of the United States to be found guilty of a crime.
Trump was guilty of falsification of business records to conceal a hush money payment to an adult movie star.
The U.S. political arena has been heated up following the verdict against the leading presidential candidate with debate arising over Trump’s future and his reelection bid.
Among the speculations raised now is Trump’s legality to contest for the Presidential seat amid the legal backlash, but this solely depends on Judge Juan Merchan to approve the verdict and enter a final judgment.
Following his indictment of all charges, Donald Trump’s defense lawyer is expected to appeal the judgment which the candidate sees as legally flawed and politically motivated.
Should the verdict stand, Trump’s Presidential ambition is still intact as the U.S. Constitution allowed a jailed individual to be sworn in as president.
