Members of the EU Parliament have called upon the apex body of the European Countries to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IGRC) as a terrorist group following their active engagement in the persecution of protesters in the country.
The major European politicians expressed concern over the activities of the group, saying their actions were beyond horror in the execution of protestors.
The European Parliament has frowned against the brutal regime in Iran, saying it calls for immediate international attention.
According to the German MEP Hannah Neumann, she stressed that “As long as Revolutionary Guards terrorize their people and the entire region, we should treat them as terrorists and put them on the sanctions list.”
Croatian politician to the parliament, Mr. Picula described the Iranian regime as brutal, cynical, and barbaric on its people.
The debate to designate the IGRC by the EU was fueled by the activities of the Iranian living in the diaspora who resolved to denounce the activities of the guards.
They accused the IGRC of being the major actor in the crackdown on protesters that led to the death of hundreds of people.
With that, many representatives of various countries in the Parliament have called upon the bloc to follow the US, who designated the group a foreign terrorist organization in 2019.
The EU has continued to impose different rounds of sanctions against Iranian commodities and people, with the inclusion of IGRC members.
