Yuan Longping devoted all his life to research mostly about rice and he was recognized as the father of hybrid rice worldwide.
His work and research helped save China from hunger and also helped lift millions of people from poverty after high yields.
He died at the age of 91 in Changsha hospital in central China’s Hunan province on Saturday.
People have come across China to say farewell to a person whom many credits for improving not only their lives but also their health as he offered them hope for the future with no fear of going hungry again.
His rice has also been grown in Africa and Asia helping many people from poverty and improving their food security.
