Brazil President, Luiz Lula da Silva on Wednesday faulted the country’s intelligence service, saying it failed to be in operation the day, protesters of the former president attacked the government building.
Lula described the riot as one that has the cooperation of the armed forces, which makes it impossible for the country’s forces to give a forewarning of the protest.
Lula during an interview said that “We made an elementary mistake: my intelligence did not exist (that day), we have the Army Intelligence, Air Force Intelligence, ABIN (Brazil’s Intelligence Agency), none of them warned me.”
He concluded that he doesn’t want to have an issue with the forces, nor should they harbor any negative intention against him, but any officers who intended to participate in politics should resign from the forces and join politics.
Due to the insurrection which President Lula described as the beginning of a coup d’etat, he dismissed over 50 military officers guarding the Presidential residence and the National Security Advisor’s office earlier this week.
President Lula is also set to meet with Army, Navy, and Air Force commanders later this week.
