The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the major opposition party, the People Democratic Party (PDP) were the major winners in the rerun election that was held in some parts of Cross River State on February 4, 2024.
The two major political parties were able to settle the score in the Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency of Cross River, securing a seat for their parties, respectively.
In the final results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Emil Inyang of the All Progressives Congress received the highest number of votes in the election.
Inyang received a total number of 15,930 votes, more than his closest rival, Mr Austin Aidam from the PDP, who garnered 12,417 votes respectively.
In the Obanliku State Constituency, Ashakia Ashas from the PDP was announced the winner after polling a total of 10,587 votes, narrowly defeating his closest rival, Achunekang Sunday from the APC, who scored 10,427 votes.
Likewise, in the rerun election for the Yala State Constituency, Mr Achadu Martins from the PDP won by receiving 9,168 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Mrs Nkasi Ekwok from the APC, who polled 8,647 votes.
The rerun election was ordered by the court to address irregularities that had arisen during the General Election.
