Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook (META.O), has discussed integrating its generative AI model into Apple Inc.’s (AAPL.O) recently announced AI system for iPhones, as reported by the Wall Street Journal on Sunday.
Apple is reportedly in discussions with AI startups Anthropic and Perplexity, in addition to Google and Meta, to incorporate their generative AI into Apple Intelligence, according to sources cited by the Journal.
Apple, Meta, Perplexity, and Anthropic did not respond immediately to requests for comment outside of business hours.
The Journal reported that the discussions are ongoing and could still be subject to change, highlighting that agreements with Apple would enable AI firms to reach a broader audience for their products.
According to the report, the financial benefits of the discussions are uncertain, but they include AI companies potentially selling premium subscriptions to their services via Apple Intelligence.
In June, the iPhone maker unveiled its long-awaited AI strategy, revealing plans to integrate new Apple Intelligence technology throughout its range of apps, including Siri, and to introduce the Microsoft-backed OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT to its devices.
