Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, has compared Professor Mahmood Yakubu’s assurance that Saturday’s credible governorship elections will be held to medicine given to a dying person.
In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, Atiku addressed through his Special Assistant on Public Media, Phrank Shaibu.
Shaibu claimed that Yakubu had pledged to ensure the strict application of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, or BVAS, during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners.
He quoted Yakubu to have said: “All staff found to be negligent, whether they are regular or ad-hoc officials, including collation and returning officers, must not be involved in the forthcoming elections.
“RECs must also immediately initiate disciplinary action where prima facie evidence of wrong-doing has been established,” the INEC boss stated on Saturday and conclusively described Yakubu’s assurances as “worthless and unconvincing.”
He continued by saying that the INEC chairman was merely attempting to maintain his composure following the worst elections Nigeria had ever seen since independence.
