UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has paid a condolence visit to Iran as he paid tribute to the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi who died in a helicopter crash.
The UN Secretary describes Raisi as a leader who has contributed to the development of human society by fostering unity among countries.
Guterres said the death of Raisi is not only a loss to the people of Iran but also to the global community, as the president has committed himself to service to humanity by championing human freedom.
Antonio Guterres is expected to meet with the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Al-Khamenei to express his condolence to the leader while he meets with other senior officials from Iran.
President Raisi was confirmed dead on Sunday after a helicopter conveying him and his entourage crashed along northern Iran following an official visit.
The President was buried during the week with millions of people including world leaders and senior officials in attendance to honor the late leader for the last time.
