The United States Department of Agriculture has approved a conditional license to the first-ever vaccine for bees.
“Our vaccine is a breakthrough in protecting honeybees,” said Dr. Annette Kleiser, the CEO of Dalan Animal Health
The vaccine technology “uses a transgenerational immune priming approach,”
It uses the queen bee as ‘carrier agent’ to pass the immunity onto larvae before they hatch.
The vaccine content “killed whole-cell Paenibacillus larvae bacteria”
The company claims that experiment have shown this “may reduce larvae death” associated with the Foulbrood infections.

The USDA has given the treatment conditional approval for two years.
If the experimental process proves to be successful, the company, Dalan, intends to test it
“On other honeybee diseases and underserved industries, such as shrimp, mealworms, and insects used in agriculture.”
