Garafini pointed out that the Niger state commission’s decision was reached on March 21, 2023, at its 136th meeting, after taking into account the suggestions of the committee headed by Justice Mohammed Mohammed that was established to examine petitions against judges.
Of of the seven petitions, three were against Iya, two of which the petitioners had sufficiently proven, and the court had unambiguously accepted the charges leveled against him, according to Garafini.
He disclosed that the report accused Mohamed Bako of abdicating his judicial responsibilities by defending and protecting a suspect named Saba Idris from being detained by law enforcement and facing charges.
Two judges of the sharia court were also downgraded by one grade level by the commission due to misconduct and misuse of power.
The impacted judges are Mohammed Baba Enagi, a colleague in Badeggi, and Abdullahi Nasiru, the Sharia Judge of Kotun Bola Minna.
