After days of speculation, the Russian Wanger Group confirmed it had taken the eastern Ukrainian salt town of Soledar after days of intense fighting.
The eastern Ukrainian town has seen days of intense fighting in Russia’s attempt to take the strategic city of Bakhmut and the entire eastern region of Donbas.
Ukrainian officials haven’t commented on the situation surrounding Soledar’s fall.
According to Wanger leader Yevgeny Prigozhin, Wanger units took control of the entire territory of Soledar, with a cauldron being formed in the center of the city.
Russia’s state news agency confirmed the Wanger Group’s takeover of Soledar’s salt mine following fierce fighting, while Prigozihin shared a photo of himself surrounded by his mercenaries in one of the salt mines.
