Between 2015 and 2023, the Presidency emphasized the enormous strides made by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to restructure and improve the fighting prowess of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
In a 90-page report made public on Sunday in Abuja, Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, stated that the outstanding initiatives had a beneficial influence on the military’s capabilities.
In counter-terrorism operations, Adesina said that deaths caused by Boko Haram dropped by 92 percent from 2,131 in 2015 to 178 in 2021. He cited a report on the Global Terrorism Index 2022, which acknowledged Nigeria’s “successful counter-insurgency operations targeting Boko Haram” as a leading cause of the reduction in terrorism deaths in Sub-Saharan Africa. Adesina recalled that in May 2022, United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres also acknowledged the tremendous achievements of the military in the North East.
According to the International Maritime Bureau’s study, which Adesina also cited, Nigeria experienced the fewest pirate attacks on its waters in 2021. Regarding the military’s equipment, he claimed that the Buhari administration had bought a range of weapons, aircraft, and vehicles for the force during the time. Since President Buhari took office in 2015, 38 brand-new aircraft have been delivered to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), according to Adesina.
