Tanzania’s opposition leader Tundu Lissu on Friday declared that he will return home from exile to write a new chapter about his life. the actions follow the Tanzania president’s lifting of a ban on political assembly.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s announcement this month that a ban on political rallies imposed by her hardline predecessor would be raised in an overture to the opposition.
The opposition leader survived 16 times assassination attempts in 2017 and has spent most of his life in Belgium, said he would arrive in Tanzania on January 25.
” We cannot continue to endlessly live in exile,” Lissu said in a speech that was broadcast live on YouTube and carried on local channels in Tanzania.
“I am optimistic that we will write a new chapter this year… 2023 is an important year in the history of our country.”
