President Putin had expressed his view on the recent move by Sweden and Finland on joining NATO, saying that their accession into the military organization isn’t a threat to Moscow.
In a statement made during a meeting with top officials in Kremlin on Tuesday, President Putin reiterated his stand that, both countries joining NATO doesn’t pose a threat to the sovereignty and dignity of Russia militarily.
Finland and Sweden submitted a request to join NATO after years of neutrality in a bid for military assurance and support from the Western countries, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in mid-February.
According to reports from both countries, their government has made a firm stand to join up with the Western allies to provide support for them in case of future attack from Russia, following their decision, the Kremlin had reported back with a hit on both countries.
President Putin on Finland and Sweden joining NATO, said, both countries are liable to join NATO as they pose no threat to Moscow’s sovereignty, but the improvement of military facilities will not be tolerated as it will come at a hard price for them.
He made his resolve known that Russia has no problem with the accession of both countries into NATO, but any actions that will pose a military threat to Russia will not be tolerated and shall be dealt with decisively.
Russia continues to be on a war front with Ukraine, following their intention to join NATO, which President Putin had warned against to come at a high price for them, neglecting President Putin’s warning, Russia and Ukraine had been at loggerhead since mid-February with the Moscow invading the country, annexing city by city.
