The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has escalated with both countries conducting airstrikes on multiple cities, resulting in civilian casualties and significant damage to infrastructure.
On Saturday night and Sunday, Ukraine targeted the city of Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula with five US-supplied ATACMS missiles.
Russian officials reported that the attack killed three people, including two children, and injured around 100 others.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that four of the missiles were intercepted by air defense systems, while the fifth detonated mid-air. Mikhail Razvozhayev, Governor of Sevastopol, confirmed the casualties and injuries on Telegram, noting that Sevastopol, a strategic naval base, frequently comes under attack but rarely with such a high toll.
In another incident, a Ukrainian drone strike in the southern Russian town of Graivoron killed one man and injured three others, according to Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. He reported that three drones hit areas near the border with Ukraine, including a car park near a residential block.
Russian air defenses also intercepted several unmanned aerial vehicles over the Smolensk region, as reported by Governor Vasily Anokhin. No casualties or damage were reported from this incident.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces hit Russian drone facilities in the Krasnodar region, according to the Ukrainian navy. In Ukraine, a Russian missile attack on Kiev injured two people and damaged dozens of buildings, including residential structures, a gas station, and a pharmacy.
Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk stated that two of the three missiles launched by Russia were shot down, with debris causing the injuries.
The conflict has also been active in the Kharkiv region, where Russian forces launched a series of attacks, including a missile strike, 20 airstrikes, and 23 kamikaze drone attacks, resulting in significant destruction.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused the West of pushing the world towards a “point of no return” with its “selfishness and arrogance.” The Kremlin described recent comments by NATO chief regarding nuclear weapons as an “escalation of tensions.”
