The Nigerian Supreme Court on Wednesday, in a sitting with all five members of the panel, vehemently rejected the appeal filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Aisha Dahiru (also known as Binani), to nullify the reelection of Gov. Ahmad Umar Fintiri.
The APC governor candidate, in an appeal filed at the Apex Court, affirmed her victory in the state governorship election, accusing the incumbent governor of electoral malpractice.
The Supreme Court deciding on the matter found the litigation of Sen. Binani without valid legal bases, subsequently leading to its dismissal by the final court.
Binani had subsequently lost her appeal in the Tribunal and Court of Appeal before resorting to the Supreme Court, where she was sure the favour would be in her fortune.
The ex-APC lawmaker, in her opinion, maintained that she secured the highest valid votes, which warranted her being declared the winner by the electoral body during the 2023 gubernatorial election.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) commended the decision of the Supreme Court by making sure the votes of the majority were protected, urging Sen. Binani to work collectively for the interest of the State aftermath of her loss.
