On Wednesday, a well-known Sudanese actress, Asia Abdelmajid, was killed in crossfire in the north of Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, as the conflict escalates.
According to the BBC, Abdelmajid, who
turned 80 last year, was best known for her stage appearances, first appearing in the 1965 production of the play Pamseeka.
To commemorate the Centennial of Sudan’s first revolution against a Coup leader, the play was performed at Omdurman’ss national theatre.
The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on the warring factions to stop the fighting immediately before the conflict escalates into an all-out war.
She was regarded as a stage pioneer and the country’s first professional stage actress, who retired to become a teacher.
Her family learned she was buried within hours of her shooting on Wednesday morning on the grounds of a kindergarten where she was most recently employed. According to the study, taking her to a cemetery was too risky.
