SpaceX Starlink Internet service will soon be available in Nigeria, according to the country’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami. Some Starlink user terminals have already been delivered to Nigeria to begin the service.
The satellite internet service is expected to expand in the country in 2023 and is available for pre-order now. The hardware required to access the service costs $600 in Nigeria, with a monthly subscription fee of $43.
One Nigerian resident who had the opportunity to test the Starlink network reported speeds of 20 Megabits per second (Mbps) on the initial test, increasing to 240 Mbps afterwards.
The goal of the Nigerian government was to provide reliable internet access to 90% of the population by 2025, a goal that is now attainable with the help of the Starlink satellite network, which is able to beam high-speed internet to rural and remote areas. Nigeria is set to be the first African country to introduce the service.
