An overnight strike on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv has reportedly damaged infrastructural facilities causing power and heating outages.
It was reported that that Russia kept hovering around Kyiv for the second night in a row, after firing series of missiles over the capital on New Year’s Eve night and earlier in the day.
Kyiv Governor, Oleksiy Kuleba, posted on Telegram messaging app around 1 a.m (Russian time)
“It is loud in the region and in the capital: night drone attacks,”
He further said,
“Russians launched several waves of (Iranian-made) Shahed drones. Targeting critical infrastructure facilities. Air defense is at work.”
3 hours later the military responded,
Kyiv military administration claims to have shut down 16 drones hovering around the city using Ukraine’s air defense systems.
According to the city’s Mayor, Vitali Klitschko,
“debris from one of the destroyed drone over Kyiv hit the capital’s northeastern district, wounding one”.
The 19-year-old man was taken to a hospital in Kyiv’s Desnianskiy district, Klitschko posted on the Telegram messaging app on 2nd of January 2023
