The Federal Government’s proposed elimination of the fuel subsidy has been warned against by a group, the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, who has threatened to oppose the decision.
The group voiced alarm about the potential effects of such a move on “the already struggling economy and the Nigerian people” while opposing the proposed withdrawal of fuel subsidies.
In a statement released on Thursday in Kaduna, the group’s president, Alhaji Isa Abubakar, also voiced concerns that any temporary solutions put in place to mitigate the effects of the subsidy removal would be stolen by corrupt individuals, much like the COVID-19 intervention monies.
