U.S. President Joe Biden has laid out a new proposal for a hostage deal between Hamas and Israel as he urges both parties to accept this proposal.
President Biden described the deal as one that brings all the hostages home, ensures Israel’s security, creates a better day after I’m Gaza without Hamas in power, and sets the stage for a political settlement that provides a better future for Israelis and Palestinians alike.”
He said Israel has proposed a deal that will ensure a ceasefire and the release of all hostages which has been transferred to Hamas by Qatar.
He said, the new proposal entails three phases the first is set to last for six weeks and includes a total ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas in Gaza, and the release of hostages between both parties.
President Biden further noted that the American hostages would be among those released in the first stage.
Also, included in the deal is returning the remains of some hostages who have been killed to be returned to their mourning families.
In the six-week negotiations of the first phase, both Israel and Hamas would work on the second phase which will be about a permanent solution to the conflicts in the State emphasizing the difficulties in the round of negotiating.
Biden urged Hamas to work towards ensuring the temporary ceasefire becomes permanent saying only the first phase will bring about the second phase and that the United States, Egypt, and Qatar will ensure the agreement is sealed and agreed upon by the conflicting parties.
