Britain’s Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has been elected the new leader of the British Parliament taking power as Britain’s new Prime Minister after Boris Johnson.
Liz Truss was named the leader of the Conservative Party after an overwhelming victory at the ballot over her closest rival Rishi Sunak, with Truss polling 81,326 votes to Sunak 60,399.
The British Foreign Secretary defeated the former Chancellor in a battle of fight till the end between them, with both remaining the only contestant that make it through to the final stage on a high after a close to 2 months contest to succeed outgoing Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.
With her victory over Sunak, Liz Truss will become the 56th British Prime Minister, and the third female to mantle the top position in thcountry’sry history, following the footsteps of Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.
Truss’s victory came in a period of challenge for Europe, as the continent is embattled with an energy crisis following the war between Russia and Ukraine as the major problem.
With her victory, Truss will set to work as early as possible to finalize and look for possible solutions to the energy problem the kingdom is facing, and will also be in Downing Street today to become the next Prime Minister.
Truss is also said to be visiting Her Majesty, the Queen at her estate in Balmoral today, before returning to London to put her cabinets in place for work.
Truss after her victory, thanked Rishi Sunak for putting a hard fight against her, she also applaud her supporters for allowing her to be the next Prime Minister which she described as an honor bestowed upon her and one of the toughest and longest interviews in her life.
The 47 years old newly elected Prime Minister has promised to stay true to her word by acting quickly and tackling the country’s cost-of-living crisis, energy problem, economic growth, and reducing taxes for the betterment of the British citizens and those living there.
